Speak to Him, Heart to Heart

An Act of Faith in the Blessed Sacrament

O my God, I firmly believe that Thou art really and corporally present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar. I adore Thee here present from the very depths of my heart, and I worship Thy sacred presence with all possible humility. O my soul, what joy to have Jesus Christ always with us, and to be able to speak to Him, heart to heart, with all confidence. Grant, O Lord, that I, having adored Thy divine Majesty here on earth in this wonderful Sacrament, may be able to adore it eternally in Heaven. Amen.

God Only Knows

Study It and Love It Silently

And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven, as it were for half an hour. ~ Revelation 8.1

Evelyn Waugh’s concerns about Vatican II and the liturgical reform are recorded in his diaries and letters, and in a famous Spectator article at the onset of the Council...  He wrote in the Spectator article:

"Participation’ in the Mass does not mean hearing our own voices. It means God hearing our voices. Only He knows who is ‘participating’ at Mass. I believe, to compare small things with great, that I ‘participate’ in a work of art when I study it and love it silently. No need to shout. … If the Germans want to be noisy, let them. But why should they disturb our devotions?" [With sincere apologies to our dear German friends!]

Evelyn Waugh’s concerns about Vatican II and the liturgical reform are recorded in his diaries and letters, and in a famous Spectator article at the onset of the Council. Much of this material, and responses to his letters from Cardinal Heenan, has been turned into a book, ‘A Most Bitter Trial’ (ed Scott Reid). Waugh didn’t live to see the 1970 Missal, but he was deeply concerned about the 1955 Holy Week Reform, the Dialogue Mass, and Mass in English. The Latin Mass Society of England & Wales

The Medicine of God

Prayer to Saint Raphael the Archangel

Glorious Archangel Saint Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, who art illustrious for thy gifts of wisdom and grace: thou art a guide of those who journey by land or sea or air, a consoler of the afflicted, and a refuge of sinners. I beg thee, assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as once thou didst help the young Tobias on his travels. Because thou art the "Medicine of God," I humbly pray thee to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body. I especially ask of thee this favor [mention your petition] and the great grace of purity, to prepare me to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
